Dalmatians and slow fashion: why we do things slowly when the world moves fast
There's a phrase we hear more and more:
“Everything is moving too fast these days.”
And it's true.
Fashion, above all, lives in a frenetic cycle:
New things every week, trends that last for days, clothes that are manufactured, consumed and forgotten with the same speed.
But while everything else is rushing around, in Dalmatán we decided to do the opposite: to go slowly .
Because we believe it's the only way to design, test, and create shoes that are truly different.
The special thing about working like this
We get asked a lot why we're committed to slow fashion if it's more expensive, more complex, and takes more time.
And we always give the same answer:
Because what's quick gets forgotten, thrown away, pollutes, is stored, and if it's not sold within a few months, it's discarded . And this makes no sense in Dalmatians .
Furthermore, a mass-produced shoe, with printed fabrics or patterns repeated thousands of times, may be pretty… but it will never be that special.
On the other hand, when you work on a design thread by thread, when you adjust a pattern ten times until it fits, when you check every stitch, when you test lasts, change materials, repeat samples…
That's when something that can't be mass-produced appears: magic. And that doesn't disappear with the passing months, no matter how much the fashion industry tries to convince us otherwise...
What slow fashion means in Dalmatians (and what it doesn't)
Slow fashion is not about “taking longer”.
In Dalmatians it means:
1. Design each motif from scratch
Without using rolls of embroidered fabric.
Without printing patterns by computer.
Without repeating endless productions.
Every design starts on paper.
And it's being built little by little.
2. Adjust sizes and lasts based on the actual foot, not the ideal one.
So you can walk, dance, live with them…
3. Manufacture in small quantities
Some models are made once and disappear forever.
Others are repeated with different colors, fabrics or materials, always listening to what you want, to give you what you need.
4. Dedicate time to each pair
A long time.
More than seems reasonable.
More than is perhaps profitable.
But if we accelerated that process, they would cease to be Dalmatians.
The part that nobody sees
There is a moment that is always exciting.
It is that strange, almost sacred silence, when the design is already embroidered, fresh off the machine, and it's time to check it by hand.
There you see the result of previous work and discover how the designs look when captured in threads and how the colors are integrated.
All of that which is not seen until the first tests are done.
No print can do that.
No mass production can do that.
Only embroidery achieves that magic. Or at least, that's what we think...
And what does this have to do with you?
When you choose a Dalmatian shoe, you're not just buying "another one".
You are choosing something that was thought out, designed, and handcrafted.
and that is designed to last in your story.
Because slow fashion is not just about sustainability, materials, or responsible processes.
It's about something else:
to create pieces you'll never want to throw away.
And that you like them so much, that you want to take them with you always.
That is the main reason why we sometimes repeat some designs.
Because you want it back.
In a world that rushes by, we prefer to walk.
We are not looking to compete in speed.
Nor to follow every trend.
Nor fill the catalog with 20 new collections every month.
We prefer the other option.
That which goes slowly.
What is unique.
What doesn't happen a thousand times.
Because the truly extraordinary takes time.
And in Dalmatán we are ready to give it to you.
